What people research this for

People living with Parkinson's, and the people who love them, want to know if anything can slow it down. Researchers have tested a diabetes medicine and several peptides with that hope. The biggest trial so far came back negative.

Researched for

  • Slowing Parkinson's
  • Movement symptoms
  • Protecting nerve cells

What the studies say so far

Exenatide, a diabetes medicine, looked promising in a mid-stage trial in 2017. A larger UK trial published in 2025 followed people for 96 weeks and found it did not slow movement symptoms compared with placebo. That is a clear negative result. Dihexa has only been studied in animal models of Parkinson's. SS-31 research is about how cells make energy and does not show a benefit in Parkinson's. Cerebrolysin has more research in memory problems than in Parkinson's, and no large Parkinson's trial.
