What people research this for

Fatty liver often has no symptoms, so people who find out they have it want to know how to protect their liver. One prescription peptide has trial data here. Another has indirect findings from a different group of patients.

  • Fatty liver
  • Liver inflammation
  • Liver health and weight

What the studies say so far

A 2021 mid-stage trial in the New England Journal of Medicine found that liver inflammation cleared up more often in people taking semaglutide than in people on placebo, without scarring getting worse. Stomach and gut side effects were common. Tesamorelin was studied in people with HIV who carry extra belly fat. When that fat went down, liver blood tests tended to look better, but those were side findings and not the main goal of the studies. Neither replaces care from a liver specialist.
